Projects
Our research projects give valuable insights into how best to engage disadvantaged job seekers and get them into long-term, meaningful employment.
Social and Environmental Accounting
The social and environmental accounting process is a systematic way for organisations to analyse and report of their performance against their mission and values. Social accounting is about proving and improving our performance in delivering outcomes for our communities.
In 2005, Job Futures Ltd developed its first set of social and environmental accounts. In 2006/2007 we will be developing a toolkit to make it easier for member organisations to develop their own social and environmental accounts and to use these to drive better social and environmental outcomes.
Job Futures has contracted Miller Group to work with three member organisations to develop and pilot the toolkit, before national rollout in 2007.
Very Long Term Unemployed Research Project
Job Futures is working to better understand the profile and challenges for the very long term unemployed. Despite a buoyant labour market and access to Job Network and other employment services, many thousands of people remain unemployed. Job Futures is looking at who these people are and what strategies might be needed for them to achieve sustainable employment for them.
Delivering Employment Services in Remote Australia
The Commonwealth Government has implemented a range of changes in the employment policies and programs delivered in remote Australia. These include the implementation of “bundled services? – a one stop shop for major employment services, changes to CDEP and the lifting of remote area exemptions so that people in remote communities are required to participate in job search and/or employment programs.
Job Futures and its members are major providers of these services and are therefore interested in understanding the impact of these changes. The research will involve documenting the impact of the changes on organisations, communities and individuals and developing recommendations for best practice for remote area services. A forum for organisations delivering CDEP was held in Darwin in November 2006 to discuss issues and obtain input on the proposed research methodology. The research will involve a series of site visits, and a mix of face-to-face, telephone, individual and group discussions to collect information on the experiences of the changes on communities and participants.
